Preachers like to make the distinction that because Isaac was the only son of promise, that he’s the only one that counts in the story of the Abrahamic covenant.

Isaac was the only son of a divine covenant. While Abraham had many sons, Sarah had only one. It is through Sarah that the nation of Israel would be birthed. In fact, God specified to Abram that the promised son must come through her.

Though we still refer to Israel as the result of the Abrahamic covenant, upon closer study, it becomes apparent that the Abrahamic covenant is actually a covenant God made with Sarah.
